ManbazarDurgapuja

Durgapuja is great hindu festival from the mythological age . We can see the event of Durgapuja in Kritibas Ramayana instead of Valmiki’s Ramayana in ancient time. In history, modern time Durgapuja had been performing since the king Tahir of Rajshahi more than 900 years ago. Before that time , Durgapuja were done in different places of India like interior place of Kashmir,Kashi etc in other model. There worship were done in ‘Vashnabik Achar’ (Vashnabik rule). The used ‘Tiger’ in lieu of ‘Lion’ on their worship of the deity of the Goddess Durga.
According to history, on the time of king Tahir, there were arranged for the worship of Goddess Durga in systematic first time and cost was valued approximate nine lakh on that time for this Durgapuja.Present days Durgapuja is the result of on that days arrangements. Gradually the worship spread over not only the interior places of India but over the world. People said the worship of Goddess Durga was the only worship of ‘landlord’ and ‘richest’ person’s. Actually the Durgapuja is ‘mother’s worship’ hence, all can arrange this worship of the deity of Goddess Durga as per their budget.
After the British rein in independent India, Durgapuja stands with different themes of ‘Swaraj’, ‘Asur’ etc. Manbazar is the very old time. Durgapuja has been performing here for more than 300 years back from the time of king Mukundanarayan Dev of Gor Patharmohra.

Manbhum is the famous name in Indian history. Geographically it is position eastern side of India and included within the range of Chhotanagpur malbhumi anchalo. The range is wide from West Midnapur to Keonjhar of Orissa. In the middle portion the Manbhum is situated. It is average location is : http://maps.google.com/?q=23.058988451957703,86.6602635383606
History :
In ancient history it was called Bajra bhumi (Jaina Bhagvati sutra of 5 th century A.D).Once there were dense Junjal surrounding our locality, many ferocious animals stayed here and there, it was called jungle mahal. As per record 179 years ago in 1833 we had got position in the name of ‘Manbhum District’ from ‘jungal Mohal’ and Manbazar was the head quarter . Before the creation of Purulia district all activities were done here. There are many broken-down remaining scattered here as the sign of old Manbhum district. Manbazar head quarter was transferred to Purulia in 1838. In 1956, Manbhum district was partitioned between Bihar and West Bengal under state Re-organization Act and the Bihar and West Bengal (Transfer of Territories) Act 1956,Purulia got the name sadar town of district ‘Purulia’ instead of ‘Manbhum District’.
There are six historical ‘Bhum’ familiar in our surrounding area, they are ‘Singbhum’ in south side,’Barabhum’ in west, east ‘Dhalbhum’,south-east is ‘Shikharbhum’,north ‘Mallabhum’ and our is ‘Manbhum’.

The back history of Manbazar is very stranged. Once the area was fully encumbered by dense jungle called jumglmahal. Scheduled tribes of ‘Santal’,’Kheriya’,’Bhumij’ etc were dominated here instead of present days ‘Mahato’.
Colloquial word is ‘Manbazar’ has been varied from the term ‘Man-dih’ ,under the reign of ‘Many Bauri’ who had come from Mankar of Burdwan. Above 350 years ago, Basu Sing Sarder of Tentla, near the village Piyalsol was the land lord of this locality. On that time Mana Bauri of Bankata was the another share of this whole properties, who had come from ‘Mankar’ of ‘Burdwan’ earlier time. It is colloquial that, once there was quarrel between ‘Mana Bauri’ and ‘Basu Sing Sarder’ due to their share of joint partnership of land. Mana Bauri had backed to Mankar and brought the inheritor of defeated king of Mebar (Rajasthan) 'Atthu man' from 'Kota' Mankar in the district Burdwan along with Birbhadra Roy and others. It is also known in history ‘Panchacot’  of Burdwan.Birbhadra Roy not only came with him alone, there were ‘stick fighters’(present time the inheritors are the family of Hanif Sk,Manbazar),shield and sword carriers (at present the inheritors of

Labkishor Mahanty/Kushardhaj Mahanty
‘Mahanty Dewghar’ family, Jharbagda),Dewans ( present time the Roy family of Bankata),Deughoriya ( were reside at Budhpur) locally called ‘Debal Brahman’,Sarkar family of Manbazar also came with them from the kingdom of Panchacot,Burdwan.
Sarkars were acquainted as the accountant and record keeper of the king on that time
‘Atthu Man’ (nick name) from ‘Kota Mankar’ (near the village Mankar) had come here by palanquin along with Birbhadra Roy and others for their settlement of quarrelling and established a king in our  locality. First they reached at Budhpur on the brink of ‘Kansai river’. Defeating there lordship of ‘Jainism’, they had demolished Jain temple of near surroundings and established ‘Shib temple’ at Budhpur in place of Jain temple . Stayed there a few years they had gone ‘Ranga Royna’ (near Jamtoriya) remote south from Manbazar. From that place they had come Manbazar Hattola and built their kingdom place near surrounding area. First, they had made muddy wall 1st and 2nd floor building (digging up Khirkiduar pond ,north side of Pradip Chowdhury,Hattola) for their residential place and started worship of Puja like Talbasini (Grammya Devi), worship of Durga etc within Hattola campus.
.
The king of Gar Patharmohra ,coming from Mankar first had settled king’s place at Manbazar Hattola surroundings more than350 years ago. They had established there ‘Gobinda mandir’,’Jagannath mandir’, mandir of ‘Maa Talbasini’(the God of village, locally called ‘Grammya Debata’),which are still exist there as the residuals of contemporary kingdom.Later the kingdom was transferred to Gor Patharmohra, they had built kingdom there and transferred many of the mandir there.
Datas are collected our old aged resident Shyamchand Mukharjee, organizer of  Manbazar Shyam Durga temple and others. He said in earlier time the king used to go hunter, through the way of journey if the king meet any beautiful girl, most of time he accompany her to kingdom as his life partener.
After birth of a child she was allotted a place for her ownership. Sometime the land was introduced with her name, as Paruldanga for the name Parul, Akshyapur for Akshyani, Bhramarpur for Bhramara, Radhanagar for Radha, Kendbedya for Kendbani etc. There are nine village in such way near our surrounding locality. Founder of the Gor Patharmohra king is Mukunda Narayan Dev and the inheritors are following, Bhabataran Narayan Dev,Bhakataranjan Narayan Dev, Bhabnidhi Narayan Dev and the Debasis Narayan Dev. Debasis Narayan Dev is the son of Bhaktaranjan Narayan Dev, the present inheritor of Gor Patharmohra Raj family. Information source is Shyamchand Mukharjee,Manbazar
