The deity of the Goddess Durga 2012
Kundu Durgamela : The worship
of the deity of the Goddess Durga had been started at Kundu Durgamela more than
175 years ago at the time of queen Kali Kumari Debda of Gar Patharmohra. There
was an event about their Durga worship inception.
Once, three brothers had come from Rasikganj of Burdwan ( It
may be more than 200 years ago) for their business purpose and settled here.
After few years, about their land , the younger brother Ramkumar suited against
Goswami of Shyamnagar (near village) at Burdwan Court. When judgment was declared in favor of
Ramkumar, hearing this news with joy and victorious mind he had arranged the
worship of the deity of Goddess Durga at Kudu Durgamela first.
In an incidence, when his son Brajalal kundu ( nick name ‘Braja’)
was absence for a long time, the charge of the worship of Goddess Durga was
transferred to the inheritors of Gosaidas Kundu (elder brother of Ramkumar
Kundu) by the then king in the name of ‘Rajasik
puja’. Actually worship was not ‘Rajasik puja’ it was family puja and controlled
by Ramkumar family. When, Brajalal Kundu had come,he didn’t get back the chance
to take over the charge of worship of Kundu Durgamela as the proper inheritor
of the founder of Kundu Durgamela, out since then.
Present day, not only Kundu family but all the nearer as Das
etc share and enjoy this worship and the worship has been performing in ‘Rajasi
way’. All the Kundu families are the pivot of this Kundu Durgamela, most of the
money come from their donation. Activities of this Durgamela are mainly
controlled by the inheritors of Gosaidas Kundu.

Kundu, the 2nd brother of Gosaidas Kundu, had only a son Shyamkumar
Kundu. In his marriage a few years, he was died without living any child. After
the death of Priyabani Kundu wife of Shyamkumar Kundu, the deserted properties
were deployed at the worship purpose of Kundu Durgamela by their near
inheritors. Approximate 10 bighas (3
Acre) agricultural land under controlled of Priyabani Kundu is being used in
the Kundu Durgamela as the main source of puja fund every year.
